ROYAL WINCHESTER GOLF CLUB
The Royal Winchester Golf Club was established in 1888 and played initially at Morn Hill, to the east of Winchester.

In 1899, the idea of moving to Teg Down was first floated and in March 1900 the RWGC committee presented a report to the members recommending a move to Teg Down. This was approved by the members. (Hampshire Chronicle report 10 March 1900). This involved taking a lease from the Ecclesiastical Commissioners for 14 years. The lease had a clause that allowed the Ecclesiastical Commissioners to reclaim 35 acres of the land for building purposes. This clause was exercised in 1910 and the lease re-negotiated. The land reclaimed became the south-western component of Chilbolton Avenue.

The club house was built at the intersection of Chilbolton Avenue and the footpath opposite the end of Links Road. In the committee's report, it stated that access to the golf course would be "over a private road (some 200 yards in length), for the use of which permission has to be obtained, and beyond this a road 100 yards in length will require to be made through a field in the occupation of Mr. Eames".

The plans for the club house were prepared by Cancellor and Hill (12 Jewry Street, Winchester) and approved in January 1901.
(Building Control Plan HRO Ref. w/c11/2/490). From the plans, the private road referred to above appears to be Links Road. Chilbolton Avenue is not shown on the plans.

The club on Chilbolton Avenue was replaced with a new club house accessed from Sarum Road in 196?. Houses were built on the site of the old club house. Which ones?
