W G QUINTON

William George and Linda E Quinton (Residents 1935-1936)

William George Quinton was born in 1887 in Wandsworth, London.

​

He joined the Indian Service of Engineers in Punjab as an assistant engineer in 1910. (The Indian Service of Engineers was one of nine 'All-India Services' controlled by the Secretary of State for India). He became an Associate Member of the Institute of Civil Engineers (A.M.I.C.E.) in 1914 and was promoted to executive engineer in 1918.


In December 1918, he married Gwendoline Agnes Lucy Mills in St Thomas' Cathedral, Bombay. Gwendoline died in 1925 in Devon.

In 1930, William married Linda E Walker, in Marseilles, France.

​

William retired from the I.S E. in 1931.

​

In 1935 William and Linda moved into Chilbolton Cottage. William died in 1936. Linda left Chilbolton Cottage later that year.
