PIPER'S FIELD (NO. 67)

Plans for Piper’s Field were drawn up in 1908 by R. Weir Schultz. Robert Weir Schultz was a Scottish Arts and Crafts architect, artist, landscape designer and furniture designer. The builder was Musselwhite & Sapp, notable Basingstoke based builders of large Arts and Crafts mansions. The plans (HRO ref. W/c11/2/1168) were approved by Winchester City Planning Dept on 14th May 1908. The plans for the house show a drawing room, dining room, kitchen, library, hall, W.C., pantry, wine storage, scullery, larder, four main bedrooms, three servants’ bedrooms, and bathroom.

The land on which Piper’s Field is built is shown on the 1840 tithe map as being farmed by John Piper, which undoubtedly resulted in the name of the house.
