Pentlands

The  Building Control Plans for Pentlands were submitted in January 1952 by A  T Mc Donald of 16 Hatherley Road, Winchester (HRO W/C11/2/5742). The  architect was Aubrey J Harding of Winchester. At the time of submission,  the site was referred to as 'Plot 4', being one of eight plots being  developed on the south east area of Chilbolton Avenue. The plans were  for a four bedroom house with lounge, dining room, kitchen, hall and  garage.

Further plans were submitted in October 1960 for a greenhouse which was attached to the right hand  side of the house. (HRO W/C11/2/9961) This was also referred to as the  conservatory by the family.

A  T McDonald was originally from Edinburgh. The hills to the south west  of Edinburgh are the Pentland Hills - quite probably the source of the  name of the house.
