THOMAS HOLT
Thomas and Isabella Holt (Residents 1911-1941)
Thomas Holt was born in 1873 in Leigh, Lancs. His wife Isabella Cook was born in 1869 in Bolton, Lancs. They were married in 1897 in Leigh, Lancs. Thomas was a solicitor and successfully applied for the position of Town Clerk to Winchester Town Council in 1904. At the time he was Deputy Town Clerk of Leigh, Lancs. Thomas’ application letter and references were published in the Hampshire Chronicle, along with a report of the selection process.

Their only son, Robert, was 11 when the Holt’s moved to Westfield. Robert died in a road traffic accident on the Embankment, London in 1923.

Thomas was also a member of the Executive Council of the National Institute for the Blind, the Hampshire Association for the Blind, and St. John’s Hospital and the Allied Charities (which became St. John’s Winchester Charity).
Thomas died in 1933 in Fawley after pushing his car which had become stuck in sand. Isabella continued to live at Westfield until 1941. She died in Leigh, Lancs in 1948.
