MAJOR HARRY G PARKYN AND EVELYN M PARKYN
Major Harry Gordon Parkyn and his sister Evelyn May Parkyn (Residents 1951-1975)
Evelyn May Parkyn (born in 1881, Lee, Kent) and Harry Gordon (born in1885, Farnham) were the children of Lt. Col George John Parkyn and Emma Elizabeth Lancaster (nee King).

Harry Gordon joined the Rifle Brigade and became a Brevet Major. He was awarded an OBE in the 1919 Birthday Honours 'In recognition of services in connection with the War'.

Harry and Evelyn moved to Chilbolton Cottage in 1951.

In 1956, Harry wrote and published a book entitled 'Shoulder-Belt Plates and Buttons'. A shoulder-belt is the wide belt worn over the shoulder and across the body in many military uniforms. Often two belts (one over each shoulder) are worn, carrying a cartridge box and a bayonet. The plate was the connecting mechanism. Harry's book was, for over 30 years, the only reference work on the subject.

Harry died in 1958 and Evelyn in 1975, both at Chilbolton Cottage.
