MAJOR WILFRED W M GOTT

Wilfred William and Ella Helen Casberd Maitland Gott (Resident 1919)

Wilfred William Maitland Gott was born in 1874 in Leeds the only son of Dr John Gott, Bishop of Truro. He went to Eton College leaving in 1890. He started Trinity Hall College, Cambridge University in 1893. He became a Lieutenant in the 2nd Battalion of the 60th Rifles (KRRC). In 1898, he became Second Lieutenant, 3rd Battalion the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry. He was gazetted to the 14th (reserve) Battalion as a captain 31 December 1914. Owing to being unfit for active service he was posted to the Rifle Depot, where he served until the end of the War. He was promoted to Major of the Rifle Brigade, attached King's Royal Rifle Corps. He resigned his commission in 1919, at about the time that he moved to Piper’s Field.

In 1899, he had married Ella Helen Casberd Boteler. He died in 1932, Folkstone.
